Leila continues to surprise us even 20 months down the line from finishing Dore, we know it can take up to two years after finishing the treatment for the full effects to be felt. Leila is now 20 months post Dore and took her ESB (english speaking board exam) I was really thrilled that she did it all on her own without any help from her mum.
This was no small feat for a child who had spent most of her primary school years unable to take exams because of her low IQ. But this time she was able to recite a poem she had learned off by heart, read a paragraph from a book she had read fom cover to cover and then answer questions on it. Finally she had to gave a talk in front of three examiners on the subject of her cat and dog. She planned what she was going to say in advance and got all the photos, cat/dog food ready. She gained a merit plus, just missing out on a credit, but hay this is a real leap for a girl who a year ago would have needed her mum to write and plan everything for her. Ellie XXX

Leila's problems

Hi to all my friends out there. I have started this blog in the hope of helping others through the ups and downs during the Dore Treatment. My daughter Leila is now 12, she finished 18 months ago and it took her 18 months to complete the treatment.
If you knew Leila before she commenced Dore there would be no comparison to what she has become. Leila was a child who struggled with all the basics of learning. She tried so hard at school to understand but it proved virtually impossiable for her. Not only was she struggling with her schooling her undestanding and comprehension on life itself was affected too. Leila was permanently in the "fog" as I came to call it. To describe what this means if you think of your child and you ask them what they did at school today, many will say they can't remember. We all take this as I did leila, just being Leila. But it isn,t just a quirk, she could not remember what she did this morning, yesterday last week or last year. Our memories which shape the way are and how we will become were absent, loss of these memories affect their learning it means they cannot retain the information taught to them, so how can they lean?.
With the learning needs she had at school it was not enough, but there was no diagnosis for Leila's condition. She had traites of dyslexia, dyspraxia and with the fog, autism. It was my own searching for an answer that drew me to Dore and the reason for Leila's problems, Cerebellum development delay. And so began our journey to aid Leila's development and finally solve the difficulties that had plagued her all her life. It took 18 months of hard work exercises twice a day without a miss but it was to change her into a confident, loving child who at the beginning was 3 years behind her peers and was on a par with them 9 months after completing the treatment. So I hope you will join us in following that journey and learn about your own children along the way and maybe even yourselves.
